Who Benefits Most from Working with Me
Many of my clients own established service firms. Having spent much of my career working in and around these businesses (tap here to see my professional background), I understand how expertise, trust, regulation, referrals, and long-term client relationships shape them.
Their business models generally have some of these characteristics:
-
Human beings deliver most of the value.
-
Client relationships often last for years, and a relatively small number of valuable clients can materially affect revenue.
-
Revenue is often recurring or relationship-based, with a substantial amount of repeat business
-
Referrals and personal relationships generate a substantial amount of business.
-
The owner’s reputation is closely connected to the firm’s reputation.
-
Prospects may have difficulty distinguishing one qualified firm from another, making it important, and often challenging… to explain what makes the firm different, in clear and meaningful terms.
-
Client quality can matter as much as client quantity.
-
Regulation or professional standards may constrain what can be promised.
-
Growth often requires transferring relationships and responsibilities away from the owner, which isn’t always easy.
As an owner, you may recognize some of the following:
-
The business is established and viable, but its growth, profitability, client mix, or daily operation is no longer working as well as it should.
-
Too much of the firm’s success still depends on you personally. Important decisions, client relationships, and unusual problems continue to come through you, making growth difficult and leaving too little time to consistently complete your regular work. And almost no time to create new opportunities, let alone flesh out new ideas for expansion.
-
Something feels off, or the same problems keep draining your time and energy - but the underlying cause of these issues remains difficult to identify.
-
Revenue may be growing, but profitability, manageability, or your enjoyment of the business is not improving with it.
-
More referrals aren’t necessarily producing the right clients or the right kind of growth.
-
Marketing is often a challenge, because communicating what makes you different, who you want to work with - and maybe even more important - who you don’t want to work with… isn’t easy.
-
You suspect weak prospect qualification is creating difficult client relationships, but you aren’t sure how to qualify prospects consistently without alienating good ones.
-
Clients are unintentionally being allowed to overstep boundaries, but you aren’t sure how to establish healthier parameters from the beginning.
-
You’re the firm’s only effective rainmaker, and often the only person who can clearly explain why the firm is different from your competitors.
-
You’re uncertain which services should be promoted, changed, or eliminated.
-
You know something needs to change, but you’re unsure what to address first, or how to change it without creating a new problem somewhere else.
And let’s face it - some of this goes with owning a business. However, much of it does not. And all of it sits on top of the work and responsibilities already competing for your time and attention.
The owners who benefit most from working with me recognize that something needs to be addressed and are willing to give it the focus required to examine the real cause - before deciding what to change. They aren’t looking for motivation, a magic formula, or another prepackaged program. They want an objective diagnosis and practical options for moving forward. I provide both.

My Approach: Progress Through Subtraction
Most business owners try to solve problems by asking themselves “What more can I do?” After all, we’re great at doing more and working harder. Truth be told… we’re champions at it.
But if working harder was the answer, the problem probably would have been solved already. Right?
Absolutely.
However, there’s a different question you can start asking yourself - one that more often leads to a breakthrough or a more effective way of solving the problem.
Instead of asking, “What else can I do?”… I start by asking “What’s going on that shouldn’t be there in the first place?” Because this answer often reveals the friction that’s making life difficult.
Put simply, effort is being applied in the wrong places, causing systems or processes to work against your goals instead of supporting them. But because we’re so accustomed to “doing more,” our typical knee-jerk reaction is to work harder.
Unfortunately, being great at working non-stop also lets us normalize things that are costing us peace of mind. Once I admitted “I just can’t work any harder,” and owned the fact that I couldn’t go on at this pace… I went the opposite way: I started removing steps that didn’t belong. And that's when things changed.
Life got easier. Stress dropped more than I ever imagined possible. And for the first time in my professional life, I was able to breathe - without feeling guilty about it.
My job is to identify what’s getting in the way and help you remove it. So you can apply that same effort the right way, and in the right places.
The truth is, most business owners already know how to solve problems. The challenge isn’t solving problems. It’s seeing them.
And this is where an outside perspective can be invaluable.
One important difference in how I work is that I don’t approach clients with predetermined answers to the issues their businesses are facing. I do, however, have a reliable and disciplined process for discovering what’s actually happening and what to do next.
How My Three-Step Process Works:
Step 1 - Understand What’s Happening: Intake Session
We begin with an Intake Session. I’ll get an overview of what’s happening in your business, the frustrations causing you the most stress right now… and what a successful outcome would look like for you.
This is not a sales presentation. It’s a conversation that helps us determine whether I can genuinely help you and whether working together makes sense. If this is a fit, great. If it’s not, that's OK too.
The last thing I want is to begin an engagement and a new relationship that isn’t right for either of us. There is just no aspect of this that appeals to me.
Step 2 - Diagnose What’s Getting in the Way: Discovery Session
If we decide to work together, the next step is a Discovery Session. Here I’ll ask you a lot of questions so I can understand not only the individual problems, but also how they may be connected.
We’ll look closely at what’s working, what isn’t working the way you’d like, what you’ve already tried, and how these issues are affecting both you and the business. We’ll identify the decisions, relationships, systems, or assumptions contributing to the situation.
I also pay close attention to inconsistencies between what should be happening and what's actually happening. And you can, of course, speak candidly. I treat what you share with me as confidential.
Afterwards, I’ll step back and analyze everything we discussed. I’ll look for the underlying friction and conflicting priorities. I’ll also examine whether problems that initially appear unrelated are actually connected and contributing to, or causing the issues you’re experiencing.
This is an extremely collaborative process - the more relevant information you share, the better I can understand what’s going on. Then, typically within two weeks, we’ll meet for Step 3, which is…
Step 3 - Decide What to Do Next: Review and Recommendations Session
Here, I’ll walk you through what I found. I’ll explain what I’m seeing and sensing, why I believe it’s happening, which issues deserve your attention first, and the available options and tradeoffs.
Within 30 days of starting our work together, you’ll have:
-
A clear diagnosis of what’s causing the current problems, and why...
-
Practical options for addressing these problems, including any tradeoffs between those options, and...
-
A prioritized plan for moving forward, showing what should change first, what can wait, and what may not need to change at all
This way, you leave with clarity about where to invest your time and energy first, and not just a collection of observations.
If this sounds like something you’d like to explore, tap here and tell me a little about what’s happening in your business. I’ll respond within two business days to schedule our Intake Session.
Either way, thanks for your interest.

The whole point isn't more money. It's more Life.
Why Clients Hire Me
Think of me as someone you call when part of your business isn’t working the way it should... and you can't quite figure out why.
Here's what I believe I do best:
-
Listening first, talking second. I’m naturally curious, so I try to understand people before attempting to solve their problems. That means paying attention to what’s being said and what isn’t... and following the evidence to what matters most
-
Understanding what different people in a business relationship expect, need, and respond to. For example, this could mean helping owners better understand employees’ perspectives, or helping a company understand what its buyers really want
-
Helping people see the real problem, not just the obvious one
-
Asking questions that help people think differently about what’s going on
-
Recognizing patterns and connections that aren’t immediately apparent
-
Bringing an outside perspective without trying to force the situation into a predetermined answer
-
Explaining complicated situations in simple terms
I’m not emotionally or financially attached to any particular solution. What matters to me is making sure we’re solving the right problem.
I tend to think in probabilities rather than certainties. In other words, "What's most likely to happen?"
I’m willing to have an uncomfortable conversation when I believe it will help you. The intent is never to judge. It’s to make sure we understand what’s actually happening so we can make a better decision.
After examining hundreds of businesses, systems, marketing campaigns & client behavior over the years, I’ve developed a strong ability to recognize recurring patterns. Not because I’m smarter… but because the same kinds of problems - and the connections between them - tend to appear repeatedly.
I’m far more interested in understanding what’s true than defending a particular viewpoint.
Because truth isn't negotiable.
